Communication and IT

The modern world cannot be conceptualized without the term Information Technology, popularly known as IT. Information Technology (IT) can be defined as the study, development, design, support, implementation of various systems, which are computer based. This system generally includes computer hardware or various software applications. Information Technology deals with the converting, protecting, storing, transmitting or retrieving of certain information securely with the help of computers or various computers software. Nowadays, IT field has broadened so as to include the electronic communication sector in it. The combination of Information Technology and Communication is also termed as ICT i.e. Information and Communication Technology.

With the passage of time Communication and Information Technology has widely grown and now it includes various new aspects of communication, computing and technology. The umbrella of Information and Communication Technology is quite big and it covers many integral fields. IT services (Software services) and ITES (IT- enabled services) are the chief Information Technology services that have led to the growth of this industry. Various duties are being performed by IT professionals that include designing various complex computer networks, installing applications, designing information databases, data management, engineering computer hardware, networking, software design. With the development in Communication and Information technology, various job opportunities are coming up for graduates.

The IT professionals are divided into two parts, which are given below:

1. This includes professional who work in IT industry. They perform various tasks like:-

   • IT services,
   • Programming,
   • Technology development,
   • Systems analysis as well as testing,
   • Consultancy,
   • Sales and marketing,
   • Customer support

2. This includes professionals who work in some other industry like public sector, financial services, manufacturing etc. They perform duties like:-

   • Development (creating networks, applications or systems)
   • User support,
   • Operations (improving the network and application speed etc.)

Earlier, Communication and Information Technology were taken to be quite different fields but today both these fields are inter-related and thus perform work together. The corporate world cannot function without Communication and Information Technology. Both of them form the root of the business world and no one can ever think of performing work without both of them. Nowadays, various online IT courses are being offered, which one can follow from home. These online courses help in increasing one's IT knowledge and saves one time too from attending classes. Various government communication sites are also present that helps an individual to gain knowledge regarding various queries. It would not be wrong to say that Communication and Information Technology are the true weapons that lead to modernization.
